Under the patronage of the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums and the “Econom Foundation for documenting the heritage” held a conference entitled «visions and new proposals to revive the Syrian heritage» at the Damascene hall at the National Museum in Damascus with the participation of more than 20 researchers and university professors who worked in the Syrian archaeological exploration fields, as well as a large number of Syrian researchers specialised in antiquities.
The conference began with the Syrian Arab anthem and a minute of silence for the souls of the martyrs, then Dr. Maumoon Abdul Karim, the Director of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums, thanked its employees in all provinces for their sacrifices and efforts to

maintain the human legacy.

Dr. Maumoon stressed that “the conference was an important occasion to attend such group of researchers, scientists and friends who worked in the archaeological fields in Syria and were actively involved in the discovery of such treasures that added a lot to human history. The Directorate of Antiquities, since the beginning of the crisis, sought effective communication and attendance on the international level, which helped international partners to understand the reality of the criminal terrorist organized targeting of Syrian heritage, identity and culture.”
Eng. Rami Mardini, Deputy Minister of Tourism, spoke of heritage as the mirror, living memory, and the measure of civilization and progress of nations.

He added that cultural and heritage history of Syria was one of the most important global sources adopted in the history of research and the recording of the past.
Afterwards, there was the opening of the «Syrian heritage unites us» gallery, featuring illustrative plates of the excavation, restoration and documentation carried out by the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums with the help of international partners.
